My top 5 Cleaning Recipes
1. All Purpose Spray
Ingredients:
- 500ml glass trigger spray bottle
- 100ml white vinegar
- 400 ml filtered water
- 30 drops dōTERRA essential oil
- 1 squirt of natural dishwashing detergent such as Kin Kin All Naturals (alternatively use OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate or 1 tsp borax)
Method:
- Add all ingredients to spray bottle
- Shake it up and spray away!
2. DIY Laundry Powder
Ingredients:
- 50gm / 1 bar pure soap (can be bought at supermarket) or order online 0% superfat, cold process soap – pure Coconut Oil soap is best. Coconut Oil is a very strong cleaner, this recipe does not work with Melt and Pour Soap
- ½ cup baking / bi-carb soda
- 1 ½ cups of borax* or epsom salts
- 1 ½ cups of washing soda (Lectric brand in Woolworths) or you can make this yourself (see Healthy Munchkins cleaning recipe booklet)
- 20 drops dōTERRA Purify Essential Oil (or use a combination of your favourite oils – lemongrass, tea tree, rosemary, lavender, lemon…. etc.!)
- Steel or glass container sealable container to store in
Method:
- Grate soap (or use thermomix or strong processor)
- Add remaining ingredients and combine
- Store in suitable container
- ¼ cup per load
Tips:
- *Although from natural derivatives, borax can be toxic and is a controversial ingredient. Consider using a cup of Kin Kin laundry detergent.
- Make in batches 4 x the above for families
- Suitable for front and top loaders
3. Mattress, carpet and upholstery cleaner
Ingredients:
- 1 cup baking soda (enough for a queen size mattress)
- 10 drops dōTERRA essential oil
- 1 glass jar
- 1 sieve
Method:
- Add the baking soda and essential oils to a glass jar
- Shake to evenly distribute the oils
- Leave overnight if time permits
- Put the mixture into the sieve and sift across your mattress, carpet or upholstery
- Leave the mixture on for at least an hour. The longer you leave it, the better the results
- Vacuum (tip: use your vacuum hose only to remove from mattresses)
Tips:
- Use an essential oil that will help further repel dust mites, such as Lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Clove, Rosemary or Purify blend.
- It is recommended to patch-test this mixture on delicate fabrics prior to use.
4. Tile & Bath Scrub
Ingredients:
- 1 glass jar 300-400ml
- ¾ cup baking soda
- ¼ cup liquid castile soap
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 5-10 drops dōTERRA Lemon essential oil
Method:
- In a glass jar, combine the baking soda and castile soap
- Add the water and stir
- Add the vinegar
- Add the essential oil
- The consistency should be a soft paste
- Store with lid secured to remain airtight
Tips:
- Liquid castile soap is a vegetable-based soap commonly found in health food stores. Dr. Bronner’s is a popular one. Look for organic and unscented
5. Air Freshener
- Almost fill a 50ml glass spritzer with water
- Add 15-20 drops of dōTERRA essential oil
- Shake and spray as needed!
